On a Formula for the Spectral Flow and Its Applications
We consider a continuous path of bounded symmetric Fredholm bilinear forms with arbitrary endpoints on a real Hilbert space, and we prove a formula that gives the spectral flow of the path in terms of the spectral flow of the restriction to a finite codimensional closed subspace. We also discuss the case of restrictions to a continuous path of finite codimensional closed subspaces. As an applic...
ON A FORMULA FOR THE nTH DERIVATIVE AND ITS APPLICATIONS
In this paper we obtain a formula which involves the n th derivative of the first order divided difference and a corresponding inequality for functions whose (n + 1)-th derivative belongs to a L p space. These results are a generalization of the results from [1] and [2]. Finally, some examples are given.
A Bayes Formula for Gaussian Noise Processes and its Applications
An elementary approach is used to derive a Bayes-type formula, extending the Kallianpur–Striebel formula for the nonlinear filters associated with the Gaussian noise processes. In the particular cases of certain Gaussian processes, recent results of Kunita and of Le Breton on fractional Brownian motion are derived. We also use the classical approximation of the Brownian motion by the Ornstein–U...
The Trace Formula and its Applications
In May, 1999 James Greig Arthur, University Professor at the University of Toronto was awarded the Canada Gold Medal by the National Science and Engineering Research Council. This is a high honour for a Canadian scientist, instituted in 1991 and awarded annually, but not previously to a mathematician, and the choice of Arthur, although certainly a recognition of his great merits, is also a reco...
